is college a scam?

In American society, I feel like it’s been so engraved into our brains that in order to become successful, we need to go to college. Personally, I’m starting college in the upcoming days as an accounting major but sometimes I question if college is even worth it, given the outrageous cost of not only tuition, but also meal plans and dorms and the fact that it’s not even a guarantee that you’ll find a well paying job to pay off all the loans you’ll most likely need. Additionally, I know that college can take a huge toll on your mental health. I want to know everyone’s perspective on whether college is a scam or a good investment.
