Grandma punishing my child?

So my mom used to pull my hair as a punishment when I was really young like 6 years old because I would laugh when she would spank me she says, anyway I’m nervous she may do this to my daughter and I don’t want my daughter to go through this. My mom says she would never do anything to harm my daughter but she did it to me so I dont know. She has spanked my cousins when they are at her house before but idk if their mom is ok with it? But I just don’t want my daughter getting her hair pulled by her. What should I do?

Set a clear boundary with your mother. Let her know there will be no physical punishment in any way. Let her know that if she physically harms your daughter, she will not be allowed around her. I’d lose my shit if anyone laid a hand on my child.

Don’t leave leave her alone with your child. There’s no reason you have to leave her alone with her. I leave my son alone with my parents and I would tell my husband to let his parents do the same. He doesn’t feel comfortable so now we don’t. There’s no obligation just because they are grandparents. 
The fact she felt comfortable spanking her nieces/nephews means most likely she will try to discipline your child in someway. She may not think that endangers your child in any way and it’s a disciplinary action. Clearly you have different views.

If she did it to you, I’m betting she doesn’t categorize what she did to you as harm and probably will do the same with your daughter. I wouldn’t allow her to babysit if she breaks this boundary you set.

You need to make it clear that your parenting will involve no physical punishment by you or anyone. I’ve had this talk with my mom and she makes comments about the new generations being weak because of it. It’s such a dumb statement and I end up arguing with her but I’m 100% sure she understands the boundary.
