10 month old gasping for air

Hey ladies. My son recently got his first virus at 10 months old. We weren’t tested for any viruses so we are unsure which one. But it started with a fever a few days ago and then transpired into cold symptoms. He is now waking from naps and night time gasping and coughing at least once per nap and once at night time. He also sounds wheezy. When should I be concerned? He isn’t changing colours or anything from what I can see. He seems otherwise ok during the day other than some congestion and a cough. I can’t sleep because I’m TERRIFIED of him just not breathing. Do you think this warrants a doctors trip? Or is this normal for a cold/virus. Sorry if I sound nuts lol I’m a FTM dealing with our first illness.
