Make a move or no?

I live in an apartment complex and there’s a really cute guy a few doors down from me. We’ve had a few friendly, but very brief conversations ever since l moved in two months ago. I would like to be bold and ask for his number if he’s single, but at the same time, l’m a bit hesitant because we live near each other. If we exchange numbers and something was to happen like we don’t work out or anything, l think it would be a bit weird since he’s just a few doors down. Am l overthinking this or should l take a chance?
