Transition to toddler bed

I recently switched my 2 and half year old to a toddler bed and it's not going like how I thought it would.. my son and I were out of our home for about a week sharing a bed and when we returned back home I switched his crib for a toddler bed. Nap times were his nightmare and would hurt himself in the crib, fighting the nap so I thought getting him a toddler bed would help him during nap time but now he won't nap unless he is in the car and will only fall asleep in the bed with me! I don't know what to do I just want him to sleep in his own bed lol night time was never a issue until now. I kept his bedding and same stuffys but that didn't make a change

Any advice would be great!
