Water beads !!TW!!

Marisol

There’s a video circulating on tiktok of a mother whose toddler accidentally swallowed one water bead and for the last week the poor little girl has been in and out of surgery due to fluid leakage into her tissue, pressure on her organs from swelling, as well as a blood clot cutting off blood flow to her arm. All of this because she ingested one water bead.

As parents, we can be as careful as possible but if one rolls away when we’re not looking, who’s to say a toddler won’t find it before we do. And not many people know of the signs. Yes, they’re not intended for kids under 5 but there are parents who have older kids who they buy these for them even if they have littles in the home. I know they can be great for sensory play, but I just don’t think they’re worth the risk. I honestly think they shouldn’t be marketed as a kid’s toy and should be kept as floral decor only. Many people don’t even know how dangerous they can be! Yes, parents should always research the toys and products they purchase for their children but not everyone does. Many videos pop up where they say water beads are great for sensory so parents without thinking, purchase them thinking, “hey, this’ll be great for my kids!” Kids get curious as well so I feel like it’s just not worth the risk. Every parent can do whatever they want with their kids. I just wanted to make this post to not only ask other’s opinions but also warn any parent or caregiver out there that water beads are SUPER dangerous when ingested and if you have them, watch your kids like a hawk while they’re playing!! It can happen in seconds ☹️

So, what are your opinions on water beads? Do you think they shouldn’t be marketed as kid’s toys or do you think they should be left on the toy aisle’s shelves?

Also, please no shaming or anything of parents who’ve had this horrible accident happen to them. Even with you sitting right next to your children, it can happen.
