Advice for toddler hair cuts

My son is 20 months and has the sweetest little ringlets at the back of his head. His hair is just so cute and I have been refusing to cut it. His bangs however have gotten long enough that they are getting in his eyes so I think it’s finally time for a trim. I had considered just brushing his hair forward and trimming straight across but I’m worried it’ll give him a mushroom/bowl cut 😂 any mamas have insight on how I can keep the curls but also avoid a really bad haircut ??
