so me and my boyfriend have been together for 4 years. we have a beautiful baby and a beautiful home that i’m not on the paperwork for. he works and i stay at home with the baby.

we have always talked about getting married and there was never really a huge rush to get married even after we had our baby.

so when we bought the house it started to kind of get to me. the fact hes the one with the job and legally the house and he could just leave whenever he wanted and i’d be left with nothing. so i’d bring marriage up more often and he would just agree and nod the topic off.

fast forward to last night and we go to a party with some of his coworkers. one referred to me as his wife and neither me or him corrected her, at the end of the night coworker referred to me as “wife” and boyfriend had said “yeah my wife” and laughed like it was a joke. i brought it up after the night was over and he said he “thought it was funny” which kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

before we go into who proposes to who, we’ve had the conversation on if i was the one to propose and he is more the traditionalist type. to him, he was the one who needed to propose and i didn’t want to take that tradition away from him since it was a big deal to him. we’ve also talked about not having a big giant wedding like we’d both be completely fine just going to the courthouse. we both know we want to spend forever together that’s not the issue, it’s mostly a security thing for me at this point and he just has never seemed to care about that or think it’s that important.
