Won't be able to wear it

So my bf said he got me jewelry for Christmas. I am allergic to Sterling silver and yellow gold (literally makes my skin peel) so today I let him know this and he's like well that sucks bc I'm pretty sure it's sterling silver. Just to clarify I don't wear jewelry aside from a ring with my mother's birthstone on it. I was like well I can figure out what to do but honestly I don't know how to make it work. I told him he should have asked about any allergies and he just said well most people aren't allergic to sterling silver. He said I could just take the charms off the chain and put them on a different one but I don't own a different chain bc I don't wear necklaces. I don't even wear the sweet 16 Necklace my mom gave me. I feel kind of bad now but I just wanted him to know. How could I make this work?
