Carpet burn prevention

How are y'all preventing carpet burn on your crawling little ones? My boy will not hold still and wants to spend the majority of his day crawling around the house. I keep him in long sleeve shirts and pants, but he's still getting carpet burn on his elbows and knees. If he wears jeans it's not so bad, but joggers and pj pants he still gets pretty red. I feel so bad because I know he wants to explore his surroundings and enjoy being mobile by himself, but at the end of the day I have to put aquaphor on his knees and elbows.
