Gifted an outdated parenting book- what would you do?

I am curious what you would do in this situation. When we were pregnant with our first child my in laws gifted us a parenting book that they read when raising my husband/their other kids. My MIL is a very sentimental person and she was clearly happy to pass down this book to us.

The book has lots of “outdated” information. Not just that, but there are many things discussed in the book that my husband and I disagree with and are uncomfortable with. For example there is a large section about how the way parents raise their children causes them to be gay, and that you should avoid doing certain things so you don’t make your child gay. This is something we very much disagree with and the book makes me very uncomfortable (my husband too). It’s been sitting in the back of the closet and I kind of what to get rid of it. I hate clutter, and I’m really trying to get rid of unwanted and unneeded things in our house.

Would you: throw away the book and not discuss it (and hope your in laws never ask about it)?

Or would you kindly give it back to your MIL and explain that you really appreciate the sentiment but that the book makes you uncomfortable-this way there’s no awkwardness if it comes up in the future? Plus would it be bad to throw away something that has sentimental value to my MIL?

Just curious what you would do!
