After I asked him to take his shoes off, my BIL walked around my whole apartment with his shoes on. I have an 8 month old baby who is always crawling on the floor. What should I do now? Is it safe for her to crawl where he walked?? He basically stepped foot on 99% of our whole apartment floor.

He should have respected your wishes. I think shoes in the house is gross in general and especially with a crawling baby. That said, baby will be fine. Just clean the floors but even without a good clean, baby will be ok.

I mean…… it’s rude to walk into someone’s house regardless with shoes. One can’t just assume that peopke care to have your dirty shit around their house. I always take off my shoes when going to someone’s house even if they say it’s okay. And I also absolutely expect people to come to MY HOME and take their shoes off! My house is white carpet. Even if it wasn’t. My house. My rules. But for us culturally that’s just the way it is anyway so there is never a time you will have to ask someone

Hmmmm maybe because Im living overseas, people wear shoes inside the house, usually even the home owners when they have a guest over. My parents and in laws wear shoes in our house and vice versa. I dont recall any guest removing their shoes in my house actually. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Anyway they sell these little elastic baggies you can wear over your shoes. Maybe he has bad foot odor or another reason he was uncomfortable. But you can offer him baggies instead then just toss them.

Do you take your baby outside to play in the grass? It's the same thing. Just sweep/mop the floors before you put the baby down. Even if you don't, it'll be fine.
