What are parents supposed to do?

My son started kindergarten in September and he’s been catching every virus since. He was never sick as a toddler, and never sick before he started school. Now he’s coming down with something every month. I keep him home like I’m supposed to until he’s fever free but now I’m getting truancy letters and that I’m going to be investigated by social services because he’s out of school too often. I’m like, he is literally 5 and has a fever and is visibly sick! Why would I send him to school in that state where he’s 1) not going to learn anything and just be miserable and 1) get all the other kids sick? What am I supposed to do? Also- yes- I have doctor’s notes. The district doesn’t give a shit.

Ugh what a ridiculous terrible situation, I’m so sorry. Just one of the reasons I’m homeschooling my kids lol. It’s utter nonsense. You’re just trying to be a responsible parent. Realistically tho with a doctors note I don’t think they can do a dang thing about it. He is obviously sick!!!

All kids go through getting sick a lot during the first one or two years. Honestly, I’m glad I started my son in PreK 3s as he will have 2 years of preschool before kindergarten when the attendance is monitored more and being present is more beneficial for him. This doesn’t help the OP. But maybe a consideration for other people reading this post. 
As for the OP, just talk with them. Set up a meeting and bring the doctor’s notes and try to work out some sort of understanding between parties. Also I strongly recommend Better Family Daily Liquid drops multivitamin. My son also sleeps with a humidifier on and eucalyptus oil(not in the humidifier) placed near his bed. Washes hands often and knows to try to stay away from people coughing.

It's hard saying when I don't know your state laws or what your schools districts rules are. But where I'm from, in order to get investigated for truancy, you must be missing a LOT, with many unexcused absence. All you can do is discuss it with them, and see if you can work something out. Like have him do school work at home when sick? I also just follow the policy on when they want a child to stay home and for how long. I wouldn't keep him out for a simple cold. I also give my child immune vitamins which seem to help a lot!

Just keep your son home when he’s sick. Truancy threats are ridiculous and stressful, but you’re not doing anything wrong and even if they were to investigate (ugh) you’ll be fine, and you have the notes to prove it. 
My parents received a truancy letter after I was out for 2 weeks with strep as a child, it was the only time I missed school. My brother was just out of school for 8 days for the flu and strep and he was told he had to start checking in at the office before every class period as part of “attendance probation” and he doesn’t miss school either, our parents aren’t like that.

What are parents supposed to do?
