Useless Boyfriend

My boyfriend is a lovely person & I wouldn’t rather be with anyone else, but when it comes to doing stuff around the house he’s a liability. It seems like he was never taught how to do anything, but I know his mum is very strict so that doesn’t make sense. It’s little things like leaving cupboards open, lights on, mess on the counter or cups/laundry where they shouldn’t be. One offs wouldn’t be a big deal, but collectively it turns into a lot of extra things I need to do and I don’t really relax because I’m waiting to have to tidy up after him. It’s also that sometimes I ask him to do seemingly simple jobs for me and he ends up asking so many questions that it’s easier for me to do it instead.

How can I get him to use more common sense and be tidier without nagging?
