How long did you wait to adopt again after the loss of a pet?

We lost our 7 year old lab, very suddenly, and my kids have been asking when we can adopt another dog. They are still very young and don't really understand death but I've been struggling with the loss. I know we'll eventually adopt again but I'm not sure when I'll feel ready to have welcome another pup. Just wondering what other people's experiences are with this. We have another dog, and also wondering how to navigate that, as she's almost the same age as our lab that passed so she's never not had a dog with her.
