Making a new friend
Making friends these days isn’t easy. A few months before Covid hit, I had moved to the suburbs where my husband grew up. And last summer my toddler started her daycare.
So, there’s this woman, we’re the same age-mid 30s, her and my child are in the same group in daycare, we both have infants the same age and she lives 2 blocks away and she’s the type of friend I’d like to hang out with. Our husbands know each other. I usually see her during drop off and pick up our kids. How do you move the friendly acquaintance to -let’s be friends? We are in our mommy-group chat. Do I just out of the blue message her to get together for a coffee or drink and have some girl time? Would this be weird?
I got talking to another mom last summer and we walked home together. When I saw her weeks later, told her we should hang out sometime. Her reply was “yeah, we should, when your baby is a little older the kids can play together” not sure what that was except rejection.
