Desogestrel for Endometriosis

Pamela

Hi girls!

Sorry for the long post but want to give as much information about me so you can all know my history with endometriosis.

I’m looking for some advise please, I have been having bad cramps, hip and pelvic pain which affects my walking along with heavy bleeding for nearly the past 2 years, I was diagnosed with mild endometriosis when I was 22 and I’m now nearly 38. In the past I have been on various types of the pill, I have also been on the depo vera jag and had the mirena coil 3 times one time I ended up with pelvic inflammatory disease, the other two times it didn’t help my symptoms and also the third one caused me more pain and discomfort which my own gp had to ended up removing due to a gynaecologist not noticing that the coil wasn’t positioned right. I have also suffered from anxiety and depression due to the endometriosis and I really don’t want to go back down that road as I struggled badly with it.

I was referred by my gp to a gynaecologist almost a year and a half ago but only seen the gynaecologist 4 weeks ago and she wants to do a laparoscopy which I have had done before so she can check to see if the endometriosis has go worse and to try and treat it at the same time. The gynaecologist asked me to try the Desogestrel pill to stop my periods to give my body a break from the bleeding and the bad cramps but more so

the hip and pelvic pain until I get my laparoscopy done in the next 5-6 months depending on waiting lists. The gynaecologist wasn’t impressed or happy that I had to wait nearly a year and a half to see her and she was was very friendly, kind, patient and understanding.

I started bleeding last Sunday and I am currently still bleeding which isn’t as bad as it normally is but the cramps, hip and pelvic pain aren’t any better and I’ve been feeling nauseous and my mood can change from being cheery to irrated and snappy.

I spoke to a nurse at my doctors surgery this afternoon and she said that it can take 3-6 months for the bleeding to stop but it’s not a guarantee it will but she advised me to take the pill for another month and if I don’t see any improvements I have to see my gp.

Can any of you lovely girls give me some advise on how to keep myself going until the next month has passed as I really don’t know what else I can do.

So sorry for the long post and thanking for taking the time to read this and for any advise you can offer.

Hope you are all well, take care 😊
