Dating a man who was very disrespectful to his mom on tv

There's this guy I've been seeing and I swear I saw him from somewhere. And I figured out from where. He was on Dr. Phil some years ago and he was so disrespectful to his mom. And last time I dated a man who disrespected his mom he was super abusive towards me. I talked to him about it and he said yes he was on Dr. Phil but said while he's embarrassed of his behavior and him and his mom didn't have a good relationship back then he was told to act a certain way by producers. To kick the behavior up to 100 and they cut out so much from that episode like him opening up about his trauma and what he was going through and just made him seem like a disrespectful teen. He said his own mom doesn't like how he was portrayed. He said they have a good relationship now from real therapy. Would you take the chance?
