Do you feel installing a doorbell camera brings security or curiosity

Question

I live in an apartment complex that has 8 apartments per building. I hear gunshots every night but with the amount of money I make this is the only place I can afford. That’s neither here or there. 
My saving grace is that I live on the second floor so if someone wanted to break in they either need a ladder or use the stairs 
I’ve never seen a thief walking around with a ladder
My spouse told me adding a doorbell camera will make the thieves wonder what so valuable in there they need a camera so they wanna break in even more 
I feel like having a camera is a step ahead of hearsay so it’s no longer my word against yours now it’s your word against my camera feed. 
I’ve lived out here for 5 years and haven’t had any problems so far “knocking on wood” but I never know so please help me 
So if u agree with my spouse and think if it hasn’t happened it won’t and add one is only asking for trouble pick curiosity

I used to watch a show...I forget the name of it now. It was an ex burglar who showed you what makes a perfect target, what makes it not worth the time, what is a deterrent but they may surveil you if they have the time/desire to do so, ways they get in, ways to keep them out, places they search first once they are in, places they don't bother looking because it's a quick in and out type thing. The ins and outs of burgling basically. 
Cameras, motion detection flood lights, loud barking dogs, basically anything that can catch them or cause them to get caught, they aren't bothering with. Cameras add a layer of do I cover as much of my body as I can and the cover the camera? Do I want to spend the extra time and effort when there are easier places to hit. Do I want to carry extra supplies on me and add time to my hit? Because time spent covering cameras is time taken from being inside and grabbing things.

Camera are known deterrents. We don’t have anything crazy valuable money wise in the home, just our children. Which is what we are more concerned about protecting.

I suppose I could agree with your statement that cameras are a step ahead of hearsay — it’s actual proof. Lol. Literal proof of someone attempting to break into my home or actively stealing my belongings. 
I absolutely agree they provide security. My fiancé and I are expecting our first baby, and one of his first purchases were security cameras and a Ring-like doorbell. I am so thrilled to have that extra level of security. I live in a pretty shit hole town where there are massive amounts of burglars. There’s a home burglary at least once a day. One of my family homes was even broken into. My parents house is covered in cameras. Our home is going to be covered in cameras too.

No camera, there’s hackers, I would never trust cameras. Get a dog, that helped me a lot of not being afraid at the house alone. If you’re worried about ppl stealing packages , get it delivered to post office and pick it up there.

We don’t have any security. My fear is with myself is I watch the camera then I get paranoid on some shit or I’ll get pissed off cause random person let’s there dog crap in our yard and won’t pick it up. Get a German shepherd, take it for walks outside so people see that you have a big dog in your house. Train the dog. There were studies saying that criminals are more afraid of cop dogs than guns.

I’m not too worried about break ins in my neighborhood, but we have a ring to see when packages are dropped off because porch pirates do come through and it is a deterrent for that. Mainly we got it to prove our neighbors were letting their English Mastiff out to take a giant shit on our walkway every morning 😂

Sorry but how tf is having a camera, ANYWHERE for that matter- a line of security? How tf is a camera gonna defend your life ? It wont. I understand if its to check who comes to the door or porch or whatever. But i dont understand how people think a camera provides any kind of security.

We bought ours for security because our Amazon packages were being stolen. Had it for over a year then our apartment told us we can’t have a camera 🙄 now it’s in our living room so we can check on our cats during the day
