Is this a thing?

We sent out through text some  4th birthday invitations to the mom’s from my LO’s daycare. I texted they should come with their (child’s name) 
Mind you, I barely know these other moms or their kids. And some even asked if they can just drop off their child!! I mean that’s ok, if we’re friends and all but they’ve never been over or know us, I’m not willing to look after those kids! Personally, this is irresponsible, or just a thing small kid’s birthday parties are done???

Yeah this is a thing. Some parents have multiple kids and it's too hard to stay. I never left my kids but did have to decline some invitations because it was too much for me to allot that time period to go watch my oldest at a party with a baby and 2 year old also at home, or siblings are obviously not also invited, if my husband was working or had plans that day then that just wasnt feasible for me to be able to go. But drop off would have been doable, Im just too paranoid to do drop off lol. And Ive been to parties where theres like 3 of us moms who stick around and keep an eye on everyone for the other moms cant stay. It isnt necessarily irresponsibility, it's just the reality of being pulled in too many directions.

We were invited to a 4th birthday party for a little girl in my daughter's ballet class. She had a few family members and 2 kids from class show up. All the parents stayed. Including us. It was nice to chat with the other dance moms, and her (birthday girl's) Aunt was actually my daughter's ballet teacher so it was cool having her there as well. Getting to know the dance group a little more. At this age I'm not comfortable just dropping my kid off and leaving. Especially with strangers.

I think it's actually more of a traditional thing. We had two birthday parties to attend this past weekend and my mother didn't understand why we didn't just drop the kids off.  We stayed the whole time and actually it seemed as though all the parents stayed with their kids at both parties.

If you're not willing to look after the kids, then don't invite them.
Here no one would ever expect parents to attend. Some might offer help, but definitely not every parent. But not many can house 30 kids and at least one parent as well 😅

I understand where you’re coming from in not wanting to feel responsible and having to keep up with for too many kids as the party host, but I don’t think it’s irresponsible of the parent to ask about allowing their child to attend, even if they’re unable to stay for various reasons. What age are the children? My 5 y/o is pretty self sufficient, so while I wouldn’t personally drop off or leave him, I’ve been in the background at parties before with him and he just goes along with all the other kids, so he’s pretty easy to “watch”. Depending on the child’s age, I’m sure it’d be the same result. Some people are accustomed to dropping off because it’s the only option they’ve got and maybe they just don’t want their child to have to miss out. Just another perspective because obviously at the end of the day, it’s totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with!

I think it’s not a bad thing to ask, like another posted when parents have multiple children attending such events and staying can be very problematic.  Xx
