ATTN! Who Shared Rooms w/ Siblings?

Question

My daughters are 1 and 4.5. We planned on having them share a bedroom but I’m curious how people who grew up sharing a room with a sibling feel. We have the option for separate rooms.

Bonus for wider age gaps.

When did you stop sharing?

My sister and I are 3.5 years apart (I’m oldest) and we loved it for about 2 years (when i was about 7-9) and then I felt like I needed privacy and we fought way too much to keep sharing a room.

Well shared with my brother, eventually got my own room and still slept in my brothers room, they stopped sleeping with me when I moved out my moms house, I had already had a kid and everything😂 I have a 22 year old sister, 21 year old brother, 16 year old brother, 15 year old sister and 11 year old sister. My oldest think my younger sister is her sister because she would not get out my bed. Just separate them when they hit puberty and if they miss each other they’ll still find a way to sleep together.  Me and all my siblings are close.

I shared a room with 2 brothers until I was 9, then 1 brother til I was about 11. I neither loved it or hated it, it was what it was. The bedrooms in our house were quite small so we didn’t spend much time in there anyway

I shared a room with my sister who was six years older than me and because of that she dominated the room and I had very little space. Please make sure if yours share that they have equal space for themselves as it really annoyed me! 😂

I shared with siblings on and off growing up. Sometimes the sibling very close to me (20 months younger) and sometimes with a much younger sibling (9+ years younger).
My feelings ranged from neutral to enjoyable. But I had my own room for good when I 15 until I left home. My feelings might have been different later on in my teen years, though I was a pretty boring teen, so I don’t know how much I would’ve cared either way.

For my family it's really normal for kids to share a room and everyone I know has kids that share. I never really thought of it. I shared with both my sisters and till they were old enough to move out. There was a 5 year gap. My husband's family had all girls other than him so they made the beds into wagons to cover the top for privacy and changed in the bathroom, but he shared with his sister. Right now we are fixing the house so because I have the downstairs ripped up we all stay on the main floor and I have 6 kids sharing a room but when I finish the girls will have a room and the boys will have a room. I guess for us it is what it is. My grandpa shared a loft that was basically one big bed with his 12 siblings 😂. He told stories of grabbing his clothes and running to the barn to move a cow to get dressed in winter because it was a nice warm spot 😂. I guess it's just a way of life.

I shared a room with my sister and even a bed until we were like 12 and 10. At one point we had separate rooms we just didn’t want to sleep separately. I don’t know that I would do it with littles just because I don’t want them waking each other up. But for me as a child it was a good experience

I shared a room with my 2 older siblings (18m older and 3 years older) until I was 9. It wasn’t too bad. We played hard. I believe the oldest (3 years older than me) switched to her own room when I was 7. So for 2 years it was just me and my older brother. 
We also had the master bedroom that had extra square footage for an office. That helped a ton that we had a lot of space. 
Once I turned 9, we moved. My older siblings had their own room and I wanted my own so bad. I had to share with my baby sister. She was 1. She had severe reflux and vomited milk all the time. My room stunk. She cried a lot. I hated it. 
I didn’t get my own room until 13. 
My nephews are 4.5 years apart. They tried sharing a room twice now. It does not work. They are 9 and 4.5 currently. They have never really been playing with or interested in the same things due to the age difference which made things challenging. 
So I think it just depends on your kids. Do they have the same sleep schedule? Would you oldest have a safe place to go when the little is napping?

My girls are 9 and 5 and share a room. They don’t seem to mind it. My oldest is a horrible sleeper, she wouldn’t sleep in her room when she was by herself. We moved our 5 year old in there, and she actually stays in her room. Sleep isn’t great still, but she’s not in our bed.
