Depending on government assistance!?

First of let me start off by saying this is no shame at all to anyone who depends on government assistance. I just want to know and am curious the reason why people get it. Ofcourse they’re different reasons why and at the end of the day aslong as the children are taking care of it’s all that matters. Mainly I wanted to know if there is anyone out there you know who abuses the system. For example: People having multiple kids just because they know the government will assist them with financial benefits even when they are struggling paycheck to paycheck on a daily basis and continue to bring children into this world. I’m FTM and I myself decided to get WIC services for my baby only because I didn’t receive paid maternity leave at my job and I used all my PTO when I left ..so I have no income coming in right now. However I am going back to work, Aug 16th ..once I do I don’t want it anymore. Not because its embarrassing but because I’ll be able to sustain myself again and I take pride in that. I’m Mexican-American first generation and in my family it’s a priority for women as soon as you turn 18+ to have children right away and get married and be SAHM/housewife. Not to go to college nor get a job. That being said I have a huge family that i don’t really talk too for many reasons also the fact that I chose not to follow that belief system they have. I’m 30 and bearly had my first baby 2 months ago due to fertility issues. I have a cousin who is 23yrs old, she’s on her 3rd child and says she wants more children although her and her hb don’t have a place of their own.  In our culture creating a family is the foundation and purpose in life. She’s only doing what mom and sister thought her. Her husband is a rookie police officer, yet they can bearly afford to get by and buy them the essentials. I also, see her struggling with being a SAHM with all babies being under 3.. Why is that people bring children into the world yet complain how expensive things are, specially in todays inflation crisis? i feel like some women in my family have taken advantage of the system and keep doing it just to raise more children and get free shit. I feel like people who can’t afford to take care of themselves should not have kids. I know that’s harsh but that’s just my opinion.

To be honest, I am more concerned about giant companies and billionaires taking advantage of legal loopholes to maintain and expand their  wealth in the detriment of us all.

Ive never used govt assistance except medicaid for my kids for a couple years. But we absolutely have every right to be complaining about the cost of things. 20 or 30 years ago, if one person in the household had a job, even nothing that required a degree, you could at least afford the basics. Im 43 and in the 80s my neighbor 2 doors down, the husband was a truck driver and mom stayed home and they had a lovely 3 bedroom house with a yard on a lake and 2 cars and 3 kids, no they didnt have things like luxurious vacations or restaurant dinners, but he was supporting a family comfortably and owned a home. Today a lot of people have 2 working people and still struggle to afford a roof and food, and salaries are not increasing accordingly. Food is rarely sold within its country of origin, everyone must export because then guess what it's taxed, which increases cost of food to consumers and the governments collect more and more money by circulating food and utilize gas to do so. Food is also being dumped to create scarcity so they can drive up prices, many many farmers and exporters have reported this. Healthcare and medication costs are increasingly grossly exaggerated by pharmaceutical companies to drive up insurance cost for employers and citizens, particularly in America. Im overseas now and out of pocket cost for meds is a fraction of the price that Americans pay, yes insurance gets billed but then it drives up cost. This didnt 'just happen' coincidentally all of a sudden, this is happening systematically worldwide for a sinister reason, and it's bullshit, and people have every right to complain. A coworker of mine has a daughter who is a single mom (husband was abusive) and she is willing to work, but then she loses her govt childcare voucher and once expensive childcare is paid she earns less than not working and collecting welfare, so now shes forced to kick back until her child is school aged when shes an able bodied person wanting and willing to work. Her mom has gone in and called multiple times saying why cant you just give her a voucher or partial voucher and let her work but at least you wont have to pay her housing or food, but they say sorry thats how it works. It's a stupid flawed system. And no people shouldnt just be expected to remain childless either, family is a core human need and shouldnt be denied because companies dont pay fairly. I dont agree with people intentionally having more children just to intentionally get more assistance money and intentionally be lazy, but Im a former social worker and this constituted a VERY tiny minority of those who need assistance, yet gets a lot of attention and rants.  By and large I blame our crappy governments for this problem we are in and not requiring liveable wages and allowing multibillion dollar companies to go tax free because of elitist loopholes when the rest of us are expected to pay taxes. Amazon and Walmart can pay taxes like the rest of us, which could feed a lot of hungry children instead of their CEOs buying a 4th yacht. Sorry for my rant but I felt like youre not really seeing the big picture of why this is happening and why people are finding themselves in this predicament more and more.

This is incredibly judgmental. You’re actively looking for things to be mad about so you can judge  others and make yourself feel superior. You don’t know what’s going on in someone else’s life, nor is it your business. 
Stay in your own lane. Live your own life. Stop judging  others for things you don’t understand or have context for. And if you really want to be mad at Siemens, try pointing all that judgmental anger at big corporations that pay basically no taxes while paying employees so little that they need government services to begin with.

This is judgmental and shamey. 
Government assistance isn’t enough to survive on. Real life examples: family of 5, husband loses job and the state says $6 a month in food stamps is enough to feed them. Single mom barely getting by busting her ass in school and at work, dead beat dad, mom doesn’t qualify for any assistance. Family loses income and insurance, they turn to the state for health insurance except no doctor will take it or cash because doctors can’t accept cash patients who have state insurance. I could go on. The government counts GROSS pay, meaning money you don’t make, as income. You know how many people are struggling and don’t qualify because of that? You’re talking about people starving and unable to access medical care. 
It’s unfortunate there is a stigma around needing help, so much so that you’re shaming yourself for being on WIC. You’ll qualify for WIC even when you go back to work because the income limits are quit high. People on government assistance work. 
Maybe there are bad apples out there but I don’t think there’s many people having kids for a few dollars in assistance. There are a rules in place and getting assistance is fucking hard. 
Stop perpetuating stigma against needing help. Take a look around. People are drowning.

Once you, yourself get on assistance you will see first hand how taking advantage of it is nearly impossible. You get limited income, and if you do anything such as attend school to better your life then they’ll cut your income because you will get FASFA assistance based off your income and the state views that as added income so you would loose a significant amount. This is a disincentive for anyone on government assistance. Once you get a job they kick you off within 30 days no matter how many kids you have. They don’t hand out tons of money to people. Also your case is evaluated over time to make sure you aren’t lying to get more money. They also do “walk throughs” at random to make sure that extra people aren’t living in the home. Also the father is NOT allowed in the home when you’re on government assistance! The system is so corrupt and not due to everyday citizens “taking advantage” but due to these oligarchs that’s created a society that’s beneficial only for the rich! It’s so wild that people lack the ability to throughly read/research the huge problem that is our “government assistance”. For an educated 30 year old woman with a college degree it’s pretty alarming you have no true deep understanding where the problems truly lye. You’re blaming the poor for taking advantage while completely turning a blind eye to the disparity the rich creates for our entire country! This is why France is fighting back against these mega corporations taking over the world! I’m curious what you learned in college because apart of the basic general ed curriculum is anthropology, world studies, and US history. You should know exactly what’s going on. Your statements paint a picture of someone who lacks critical thinking.

I know a girl who comes into my work. She has had 12 kids, every one taken away. Shes now pregnant again hoping they wont take this one. Her family relies on government assistance for everything. She lives mom, dad, two.brothers and her bf. None of them work. Just a bunch of dirt bags

My husband's side of the family are all religious and in the mindset that as soon as you get married, you start having babies. The majority of the parents in the church they attend that have babies, all live on government assistance to help support themselves and the babies while the husband works. They don't wait until they are financially stable to have babies. They rely on government assistance to help them.
