Those of you who use your middle name as your main name—what are the cons of it? Would you recommend naming a child with the intention of using their middle name as their main name?

In my opinion, if there’s a name you want to use as what they’re called, then use it as the first name. The main exception I can think of is a family where all of the members (usually males) traditionally share the same first name, so they go by their middle name. Another exception would be if the child themself wanted to go by the middle name when they were older. Otherwise, I think it makes more sense to just give the name you want to call them as the first name. 🙂

I used my middle name as I hate my first. It was a pain and got quite confusing. I ended up swapping my first and middle name legally a few years ago. I think it’s fine to use a middle name and it’s great to have an option if you don’t like your first name, but I would never name a child with the intention of not using their first name as their first name!!

We were originally going to call our oldest by her middle name, but I saw the complications my ex step-sister had with that. She has always been called her middle name and didn't know her real name until middle school. It made school confusing for her because the first day, or with a substitute teacher, she would be called by her first name and always get marked absent. She's in her 20s and still struggles to answer to her name at the doctor's office. She's gotten in trouble, quite a few times, for using her middle name on government documents instead of her legal name. She's even almost gotten arrested during a traffic stop for falsely identifying herself. Same with coming back from another country.

I met a man who said he did not realise his name was his name until he was 18 and filling out paper work himself as everyone called him his middle name. 
Also new one guy who had like 3/4doctor records at 1 surgery as had a double barrel name as well. So had under middle name -first name -1 surname/ first name -middle name - double surname etc… just too many options and when asked name and always called by one name you automatically give it 
Just easier to use it as first name if you want them called by it

It could be confusing at times, but i love going by my middle name. My brother and sister do as well and now my son goes by his middle name. I don't see it as a big issue at all.

I have friends who did that with all their babies. First and middle. The kids get called by their middle. They did it because its like a tradition in their family. The dad goes by his middle and the dads dad as well and so on
