Terrible twos…
Alright y’all I need some advice. My 2.5 year old has started throwing massive tantrums out of nowhere, she used to take “no” and redirection really well. Over the last month or so, she’s gotten out of control. If she’s told no or redirected at all, she will scream at the top of her lungs and say “no no no no!” Or “I want xyz RIGHT NOW” and you can’t console her, you can’t touch her or say a word to her during this time or she just screams louder, she’ll smack me and push me away and just scream and cry alone.
My son is 6 and we haven’t had issues this extreme with him, even in the 2-4 years old range, we were able to teach him and help him control his emotions and the consistency made all the difference. With her, nothing has changed. There hasn’t been any influence from external sources to exasperate her behavior.
My fiancé just threatens time out or the corner (and never actually follows through) but clearly that isn’t going to help a 2 year old struggling with big emotions. But she has zero interest in anyone even being close to her during this time so it makes it hard to help her at all. We aren’t a loud, or argumentative household. Fiancé and I get along well and when we do have disagreements, we talk about them. We never have big blow out fights that I would expect to influence this type of behavior.
