Do you believe this was an 'error'? What is your take on this?
It has been recently reported that the Canadian parliament invited a Nazi veteran, who later received two standing ovations during the Speaker's speech on the war between Russia and Ukraine. His name was Yaroslav Hunka, and he was praised for fighting for Ukrainian independence and even received thanks 'for his service'.
It was well documented that he served in World War II as a member of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, according to one of the Jewish human rights group, that demanded an apology.
The centre said Hunka’s ties to the Nazi war machine “are well-documented”. Both Zelenskyy and Trudeau joined in acknowledging Hunka during the parliament session with applause.
Anthony Rota, the Speaker of the House took responsibility for what he characterised as an oversight, calling the initiative “entirely my own”. He stated that he wasn't aware of the fact that Hunka had links to Nazi system and apologised to Canadians and the Jewish communities.
This incident is so shocking I couldn't believe it when it was first reported. Applauding a literal Nazi in a parliament is abhorrent and a slap in the face of people who lost their lives fighting Nazis and facsism.
I have a very hard time believing that this was an 'error' or an 'oversight' and the individual wasn't vetted. A simple Google search will tell you he had links to Nazi war machine. What is your take on this? Do you think when it comes to this war, politicians have simply pushed some morals to the side to allow them to continue pursuing their agenda? Because it certainly feels that way..
Below are some screenshots of the reports I found, but this was reported byamy media outlets:
