Work-away dads? How to single-mom?

Hubby just got a job offer in Liberia. Our 1st baby is due in May 2024. I dont know how to feel. Exciting opportunity and loads more cash, but i work myself and we dont really need the extra income that bad (i mean we all need extra money, but were managing). Hubby will be gone months at a time and our child will probably think he's a stranger everytime he comes back. How do I prepare myself for raising this baby alone? Anyone with advice?

My dad was at work all the time growing up, either working from before we woke up to after we went to sleep, or gone on business trips for weeks at a time. The money he made allowed my mom to be a stay-at-home homeschool mom, but at the cost of us kids never getting to develop a very close relationship with our dad, and our mom being very stressed and lonely without him. Thankfully, when I was a teenager his local office closed down and he was given the choice to either relocate to the other office in another state or go fully remote (still with the frequent week-long business trips). He decided to go remote, we moved to my parents’ dream home in the countryside, and we we’re finally able to build a relationship with our dad. He sacrificed a lot to give us the life we had, and I’m grateful for it, but I regret not getting more time with him before he died when I was 21. I am currently married to my best friend whom I was in a long distance relationship with for 3 years, only seeing him 4-5 times a year. Keeping a relationship alive from so far away is HARD, but it’s possible. All this to say, you can definitely make a work-away situation work, but it’s going to take a lot of work for all parties involved to keep your relationships alive, and your child will inevitably suffer to some extent because of the separation. If the sacrifice is something you’re willing to do, my best advice would be to make sure to make time for each other, no matter how busy life gets. Communicate with each other and visit (physically or virtually) often, both for the sake of your relationship as a couple and for the sake of your child’s relationship with its father. Prioritize your family whenever possible and don’t let questions and resentments fester. It won’t be easy, but it can work.
