Why would he buy me a ring and not propose?

I feel like he’s being insensitive. I have been with my boyfriend for 10 years and we have a 4 1/2 year-old son. We went to get fitted for an engagement ring finally after years and years of waiting he did it and got me the ring I was so happy but then wouldn’t let me wear it and said he’s waiting for the right time to give it to me. It’s now been six months and nothing am I wrong for getting frustrated, I feel confused … like is he second-guessing it? Here’s a screenshot of the way he reacted after me finally bringing it up after him buying the engagement ring six months ago.

It’s been 10 years. This man has no intentions of marrying you. He bought you a ring to shut you up the first time you started complaining about not being married. If he wanted to marry you he would do so.

I'm going to be devil's advocate here. How often, between buying the ring, and now, have you brought up the ring or engagement in any way? My guess is not zero.
And if I were to bet, he wants it to feel like a bit of a surprise but he can't do that when it's a regular topic on your mind.
Anyone saying after a decade it's not happening are making presumptions. I got engaged just over 15 years of being together. I never thought it wouldn't happen - I knew when our lives were lined up to make it work, we would. Cuz you get engaged too early and then what? You plan a wedding you may not have the money for? You do it and now what? Nothing left to look forward to.
A wedding is one day. The life and love you build is the foundation and that isn't dependent on some piece of jewelry.

The fact he hasn’t made you an honest girl after 10 years and got you pregnant…sounds to me he’s still keeping his options open? He’s never going to be ready and you’ve already unfortunately wasted time on him. I’d honestly tell him to keep the ring and dip, I would never put up lame excuses and wait around until it’s convenient, there’s 2 people in this relationship, not just him.

It could just be that he’s waiting for a special day. A lot of people propose around holidays. The most popular days for proposals are Valentine’s Day, new years, Christmas, Christmas Eve. Maybe he just doesn’t want to do it on any old Tuesday. I’d give it 6 more months and try not to pressure him, 10 years is a long time so I understand why you would feel this way. if he hasn’t proposed yet after 6 months I would start rethinking things..

He’s probably waiting for the perfect time to propose. We picked out my ring together, and it’s been in our safe since February. We still aren’t engaged (although I’m 99% sure it’s coming this month) Owning the ring doesn’t mean he needs to propose the next day. I did ask my partner for a general time range, maybe you can ask him that?
