Imagine a 33 year old woman being slapped by her mother.

Ok rewind, I am in a domestic violence marriage, and not only is he abusive to me physically, he is also emotionally abusive to me and he has been cheating on me for years. Now I am done, like done done. I told my mum that I want a a divorce and her response was “what would people say? They will say that you are like your mother”. She is referring to her marriage that ended with my father when I was 16. My mum knows fully well everything that I have been going through in this marriage. When I reminded her she said “just stay and pretend. Do you think everyone in marriages are actually happy? Brush yourself up, look good, get that surgery to lose weight”

I was shocked but this is typical of my mother anyways so I ignored her. The next day, guess who showed up at our house? My mother. She said that she wanted to have a sit down and talk with my husband and I.

Bear in mind that my husband is not only a narcissist, he is very good at gaslighting. He began to make me the problem, was telling so much lies, even denied all the cheating and abuse.

At a point I stood up to tell him to stop lying! Guess what came my way? A big slap to my face by my own mother. She said and I quote “you don’t challenge your husband”. I was shocked. I politely told her that I did not want to continue with the conversation anymore so she said she was leaving and asked me to see her off to her car.

I reluctantly agreed and in the car, she began telling me the same thing about “brushing myself up and looking good”. I felt like she was also blaming his actions towards me on me because I have added weight after just giving birth to my second child!
