When is the right time to use contraceptive ?

I am 42 days pp and we r looking forward to get back to the sex life ::: so when is the right time to take contraceptive , u don’t have got my first periods though as I m breastfeeding (not exclusively) 
How ppl normally start using contraceptive? I m thinking about injections ..

No sex until cleared. 
Use condoms until your birth control choice is effective.
