What do I need to know about getting induced?? FTM.

So I'm due on this Sunday 19 and my OB thinks I should go on my own by then. But just in case she has booked an induction for me the following Monday just in case. For the mom's who have been induced before what do I need to know? Any advice to make the process easier? I know pitocine is not fun and I'm a touch nervous 😳. I'm not looking forward to it but I'm looking forward to meeting my baby boy! Planning on getting a epidural and all that good stuff as well. Thanks in advance ladies 🥰🥰.

My first was an induction and I was SO nervous. If you’ve never birthed before inductions can be long. We were warned so many times by our doctors to prepare for a long labor. But please know that is not always the case. I went in 1 cm dilated and I think only 50% effaced. so again warned this would be a long process. 
I had three doses of cytotech (sp?) and then my doctor broke my water at 10:15am. I think I was 2cm at that point. By 3 or 3:30 I was a 10 and I never received Pitocin (BP was too low). He was born after 30 minutes of pushing. Overall a great birthing experience!!
Also the epidural was AMAZING!

What’s the reason for induction? It’s completely normal to go over your due date….your due date is only a guess date, I went a week over my due date with my second, and there were zero issues, and i know those who go 2+ weeks past their due date…inductions have higher chances of c sections or complications…doctors often want to do inductions to get it out of the way, so baby comes on their schedule, it shouldn’t work that way. Baby will come when he’s ready, and unless there’s a legit reason to be induced, I don’t think they should be offering it. Yes, I’m aware it’s your choice, and everyone has the freedom to make (hopefully well informed) choices, so no one come at me with “it’s her choice” or “I’ve had an elective induction and it was fine” yada yada, exceptions aren’t the rule.

Honestly if you are going to get an epidural just do it before you get the pitocin and you’ll be great. I waited thinking it wouldn’t be so bad and I was like dead before I’m like okay give it to me. I was only in active labour for 5 hours and pushed for 5 minutes.

Should have mentioned earlier I have high blood pressure and that's why she is wanting to induce if he is not here already. Hoping not to induce but I want to be prepared if I have to.

I was induced with my first two, and I’m being induced with my third tomorrow. 
My first, I was induced due to high BP at 40 weeks. My seconds I chose to be induced at 39 weeks due to his size and I’m glad I did, because he was 9lb5oz. 
Both went smoothly. It’s a whole lot of waiting around to dilate. I pushed 30 minutes with my first and 20 minutes with my second. Epidural with both, and thank goodness because contractions SUCK (even the ones before pitocin). Once I got the epidural, I was able to rest and sleep while I waited to dilate. 
Don’t be afraid to speak up if you’re in pain or unsure of what you’re feeling. The staff is there to help you and the baby and keep you both safe!
