Hurtful comments on online support group made me cry
I joined an online support group a few months ago for people with chronic pain. I have a neck injury from a fall that happened years ago. It resulted in broken bones. I have chronic pain and stiffness. I have osteoarthritis and a herniated disk in my neck that makes doing basic tasks painful and difficult. and Usually, I go to the website to vent and ask questions. The people in the group are usually very kind, supportive, and helpful. I made a post regarding advice on how to get on SSI disability. Most of the comments were people giving me helpful information. However, this one guy messaged me a bunch of hateful, nasty things about how I am evil, lazy, “just looking for a handout”, too young to be on SSi, taking it away from people who actually needed it, and how since I have hands and can post on the internet then that means that I can work. He then announced that he went through my post history and that I must not be disabled because I can post stuff on the internet. It set me off and made me sad. Then another guy joined in and started sending me abusive messages calling me a pathetic attention-seeking whore. I feel like this is what people probably think of me because I am a very young woman. They believe that since I am young I am faking or exaggerating. My pain has been so severe in the past that I have considered suicide. I have gotten to the point where I feel like no one believes me and just thinks that I am a lazy horrible person.
