Rsv emergency
I just had an extremely scary situation yesterday. My son has been sick since late Monday afternoon . He had a fever and runny nose and started throwing up Monday evening! Tuesday I had him seen by our doctor as I was struggling getting the fever under control. He said he had an eye and ear infection… I told him my son hasn’t been eating and has hardly been drinking. He said drinking is the most important thing so do whatever I could to make it work including syringe him water , Gatorade or pedialyte. Tuesday his fever was spiking to 39 and he started to vomit more.. I took him to the emergency room as I was very concerned he was throwing up everything and could even keep down 1.5 mls of water. They gave him and anti nausea medicine and told me to give him a tiny cup of Gatorade every 10 mins and once he could do that and keep it down he was ok to go home. He did it so we returned home. Wednesday he was about the same but his fever was gone most of the day.. he was a bit lethargic but was perking up a bit so I thought. He still wasn’t eating but he was able to keep tiny amounts of water I was giving him through a syring. Around 2 pm he went for a nap all was fine up he woke around 3 pm. Almost instantly his hands turned blue, his entire body was stiff and shaking. I panicked and myself and my boyfriend got him ready and went straight to the emergency room. On the way there things progressively got worse. His lips turned blue and he was in and out of consciousness… I met jolting him to try to keep him awake . I called 911 they transferred me to an ambulance where he then said to my shock are you going to pull over so we can meet you? We asked how long they woyld be ( we were still about 15-20 mins from the hospital) to my shock he was we cannot guarantee a time.. we don’t know how long we will be. After telling him my 19 month old was turning blue on his hands, arms, lips he repeated the same thing. We decided we had no choice but to put on our emergency light and drive As fast as we could to get there … we had to go through red lights ( when it was safe to do so). We managed to get to the hospital I ran in with my son to a nurse. He was still stiff , blue hands & lips and at this point hardly responsive. He threw up all over the floor. She immediately brought us to a room where we were treated by about 8-10 doctors/ nurses. They very quickly gave my son 2 oxygen masks ( prong and mask) and started to attach all kinds of equipment , did X-ray, started antibiotics, did loads of swabs and tests.. after some time his skin went back to a normal color but he was still barely responsive. It took some time but he eventually opened his eyes and was a bit more alert. He’s been in the hospital now for the past 2 days and he has rsv! I’m completely tramatized from everything that has happened.. we could if lost my son. I can’t believe an ambulance couldn’t meet us… I could have lost my baby… it happened so fast I can’t even believe it within 5 mins he was fine to hardly breathing and blue. They said his oxygen levels were very very low and his heart rate was very high. I’m terrified of being discharged.. they say it will be a few more days for sure yet…. Has anyone has something similar happen?
