Was I wrong for laughing at my boyfriend

Me and my boyfriend went to get a bite to eat yesterday and sat at the bar. He ordered a dirty martini but said he didn't want it in a girly cup. The bartender looked annoyed and I told my boyfriend there's no such thing as a girly cup. He rolled his eyes at me and told me to shut up. The bartender gave him his drink in a rainbow mug that said "Nobody knows I'm gay" I couldn't help but laugh and my boyfriend got mad and threw the drink AT me and then left. I tried calling him to come back but he cussed me out instead. The bartender gave me a towel to wipe myself off. I talk to him this morning and he said if I hadn't laughed at him he would have just thrown it at the bartender but that I was being a bitch so it was my fault. I only thought it was funny because I could see the joke the bartender was doing but maybe I was wrong and deserved it.
