Is it racist to say I want to hire an African nanny?
My husband and I have been on a search for a nanny to watch our LO when I return to work in February. My husband has noticed that I seem to favor the African candidates. I’m vetting everyone based on experience, education and certifications. I have quite a few neighbors and peers with nannies that are originally from Africa and their kids love them. I think it has something to do with their culture. My husband thinks it’s racist of me to prefer to hire an African nanny. I’m not thinking about the color of their skin, I’m thinking about how their culture has taught them to take care of children. Am I wrong? Should I check how I’m viewing things?
