Help! Ear infection or teething????

Help! I can't tell the difference between teething and a possible ear infection. I'm trying to avoid a pediatrician visit. My baby has her two central lowers already and is 8 months. She has had a runny nose, poor sleep for 3 days, playing with both ears for 3 days. Today she did not want to be put down, hands in her mouth all day and trying to chew on everything. No fever or cough. Any suggestions?
