Were we wrong?

Okay so two weeks ago, my boyfriend of 10 years’ mom told us we shouldn’t get them anything for Christmas this year, there’s nothing they’re needing right now and we can put our money into savings (we’re saving for a house).

My boyfriend’s mom’s birthday is on Christmas eve, and I’d already bought her a birthday gift (Bath & Body Works) prior to her saying that. Keep in mind- on my boyfriend’s dad’s birthday a couple months back, we got him a ton of stuff for his birthday.

Well we didn’t get his dad anything, and we emphasized that the gift we gave his mom was a birthday gift. Now his dad is hurt thinking we forgot about him on Christmas since we didn’t get him anything.

Were we wrong?
