Night terrors? Panic attacks?

What are night terrors like for your little ones??? My daughter is 7 and has had 3 episodes where she’s woke out of her sleep confused, disoriented, scared. Seems like a panic attack. Nothing makes sense that she has said. It doesn’t last long. I took her to the hospital the first time scared to death, I thought she had been exposed to something at school or something. Just wondering what your experience is like with your little ones?

My daughter gets them occasionally. She’s 2.5 and has had about 3-4. I’ve noticed they occur during growth spurts when she’s not sleeping as well.
She’s not really awake. She’s inconsolable. Every little touch or word makes her cry harder. She wants us close but not too reactive. And then she just snaps out of it and is very clearly awake. She has a hard time falling asleep after. 
We usually whisper to her and rub her back until it passes. 
She seems absolutely terrified or overwhelmingly sad in the moment but acts as if nothing had happened after. 
From what I’ve read is that they get less and less with age and usually stop by age 10. I believe peak age of getting them is age 3.
