Autism and college
My kids are graduating in May. My son was held back in 3rd grade which is why he's graduating with his younger sister. My son is on the autism spectrum and does really well in school. My daughter is going to the local community college because it's cheaper and my son was going to apply to but one of his teacher's convinced him to apply for the honors program for a university in our state that's about an hour away. Many kids from this high school go to this university after graduation. The honors program is a program for a select number of students with a high GPA and they get a complete full right. They pay for tuition, books, dorm, even a select number of meals. He applied and got into the program. His GPA is 4.0. His grades really started to do better after his second year of 3rd grade. He wants to go to this university and live on dorm. But he has awful anxiety. Very sensitive. Doesn't really leave the house much and he would be living on dorm. His younger sister isn't even going away to a big college at the moment. My daughter is actually kind of upset he made it into this program and got a full ride and she has to start with community college. He will be 18 in May so it will be his decisions but I think his autism will make it hard to adjust to college life.
