Homeschooling a teenager? How smart do I need to be?

I’m a stay at home mom with 5 kids who are in public school. I have a teenage daughter who is doing very bad in school because of the choices she makes 🤦‍♀️ she’s focused on the wrong things, the bad influence, cutting and she worries alot about what other kids think about her like makeup and clothing it’s affecting her self esteem so I want to homeschool her but I’m not smart enough to teach her and I’m wondering if it will be hard? I finished high school and I never went to college so would that be enough to school her? Anyone here homeschool a teenager can give me some advice?

I was homeschooled. You can definitely homeschool her yourself. There are many curriculums to look into. My mom barely had any college, taught me, and I scored higher on everything than my public high school friends. In fact, all my homeschool friends were better educated and socialized than my public school friends. A lot of it comes down to reading lots of books, having a good curriculum, and having conversations with your kids about the world. But like others said, you can also do virtual if that would work better for you. You can also look into finding a local homeschool co op. I’d do a lot of research and find a homeschool moms group or virtual school group to get an idea of what their day to day is like.

I would look into a virtual high school as others suggested so they can focus on academics. In the meantime, use the flexibility homeschooling offers to connect with her more. Take her with you on grocery runs and other errands. Maybe get her set up with consistent volunteering opportunities and/or a part time job. A lot of the behaviors you mentioned can be helped by getting a bigger picture of the world and feeling a little more responsible in it.
That said, don't isolate her from her friends. They may naturally drift away when they're not at the same school anymore, but if they reach out, she should still
be able to spend some time with them (as long as they're not getting up to illegal stuff).
Also, a lot of school districts in the US still allow kids to participate in their local high school's extracurricular activities even if they're enrolled as homeschoolers. I'd keep those options open to her as well if it's possible.
