What is a reasonable amount of time for my in-laws to stay at my house when they visit us?

They live 1.5 hours away. We have a toddler and baby on the way and I’m tired of hosting them. After I see my MIL I feel horrible about myself because she’s just subtly mean. But my son’s birthday is coming up and I know I’ll have to host them for some period of time. They usually stay from 10am-7pm and it just feels like too much.

If your MIL is mean, don’t allow her to come to your home. Your home is your peace. If someone is costing you your peace, they are too expensive to have around. No one is entitled to you or your children.

I wouldn’t allow anybody who is mean to me or makes me uncomfortable in my home period. Now if she continues being mean your husband needs to stand up for you and be a man, or you need to speak up. no one deserves disrespect in their own home .

Because it's a long drive they.want to make the journey worthwhile and stay a long time. Maybe suggest they stay in a hotel and you can meet shorter days either side. Or offer to meet halfway and do an activity together and you will not have to host at all.

10-7 doesn’t seem unreasonable.  I wouldn’t want them there if they’re mean though.
