At what age can newborn go with other parent ??

My child’s father and I were together 4 years we have a 1 year old and I’m due in 2 months . We officially broke up in may . He gets our 1 year old Friday -Sunday . When this baby is born WHEN SHOULD THIS BABY START GOING WITH THE OTHER PARENT & and should it be overnight or start off just for a couple hours

(Btw: I’m the one that ended things , and I’m not bitter so I’m not the type to keep the kids away from their father or control who they are around in his care)

Baby needs mom more than dad at the beginning, but it's still really important that dad gets as much bonding time as possible. Just a couple of hours a day will help build that bond between them. You can also make it family time for all 4 of you, that way your toddler can also strengthen their bond with dad and baby.

It depends on how baby is fed. If exclusively breastfed, then baby shouldn’t be away from mom for longer than an hour or two until done BF-ing. If using formula, then they can go longer stretches with the other parent.

I meant to vote “only a couple hours,” but accidentally clicked “3m-6m” when opening. If I was personally in this situation, I’d make it an option to come to my house whenever he wants to see the baby until the baby is at least a couple months old. I breastfeed my babies so I think it’s a little different if you formula feed. If I formula fed, I think taking the baby overnight once a week for a while would be fine & we’d eventually work up to the same agreement as the other child.

I would not leave my newborn overnight, even if it is their father. Way too many horror stories. Plus a baby needs mom , even if you are not breastfeeding. Id be waiting as long as possible personally
