Okay so the day started off with my husband of 8 years calling me big and taking up all the room so he couldn't get in the bathroom (I'm 7 months pregnant). He was just generally being rude and nasty. When we were in the car on the way to work he saw a facebook reel about how Oregon says students don’t need to prove mastery of reading, writing or math to graduate, citing harm to students of color (something along those lines). I said you shouldn't believe everything you see on a facebook reel. So he googled it and then said it's real and that "those people (black people) are "dumb as rocks" and that it's their cultures fault." I said that is INCREDIBLY racist and a disgusting thing to say. He said "it's not racist if it it's fact". He dropped me off at work and then later that day when he picked me up he knew I was still upset about it and was trying to joke about socioeconomic class and said that those kinds of people are bringing our economy down and don't contribute to society. But he was laughing and trying to get under my skin because he KNOWS I cannot stand any kind of racist remarks even as jokes. I don't think he's truly racist and is just saying it all to get under my skin but I am seriously considering leaving him just because I don't want to hear it even as a joke or in front of our children. He's the same way about over-weight people, women, and anyone who is basically not a cis-white male. I have told him repeatedly to stop but if I actually call him a racist he FLIPS out and says that I'm a disgusting piece of shit for not taking a joke.
