Newborn eating??

My almost 3 week old wakes every hour and a half and eats about 3oz from freshly pumped milk. Is it normal for him to eat this much and this often?! I’m afraid my milk isn’t satisfying him. He’s been like this for about 2 weeks.

That’s a lot. 
Babe should only just now be reaching 24oz a day. From about 4w to 12m old, babe needs 24-32oz of milk a day. 
Pace feeding is very important to avoid overfeeding. Overfeeding with a bottle is very very easy. It can stretch the stomach. 
Eating often is totally fine. The bottles need to be smaller and pacefed if they are eating frequently. Clusterfeeding is very normal. Every 1-2hrs, would be bottles of 1.25-2.5oz. 
Make sure you have a slow flow nipple (preemie, newborn, 0). Keep the bottle parallel with the ground. 
Remember that pediatricians are not trained in breast (unless they are also a certified IBCLC). Most simply go by formula charts for all babies.

So they’re eating 16 times a day and a total of 48oz/day? Are they spitting up? That does seem like a lot. I agree with the other comment pace feeding is important.

My son was eating 5oz at 3 weeks old, but probably closer to every 3 hours. He also slept for long stretches of time from birth. Breastfeeding, pumping and supplement with formula as per pediatrician. He’s now a healthy 2 year old! My mom is a NICU RN, and we stick by old saying “feed until baby is full.” Personal opinion is never starve a growing, hungry baby. As long as MD isn’t concerned and there’s no medical issues, let baby feed ☺️

That is a lot that often. You need to be pace feeding with a slow flow nipple 
1oz per hour. So if baby is eating every 1.5 hrs it should be 1.5oz, 2oz max.

I think he’s well within range. He could be cluster feeding as well. Breast milk composition is very different to formula and babies might require 1-2oz more of breast milk than formula to feel satisfied. I don’t think it’s a cause for concern but you can always get him checked/ask the professionals if it’s normal.
