Step parent adoption
Is there anyone who knows a male that was adopted at a young age or has a son that was adopted by a step parent?
Long story short… my son’s biological dad willingly gave up custody of my son when he was 18 months old. He wanted no visitation, no child support, nothing. So after about 2 1/2 years after, my husband adopted him. My son has always called him dad and my husband has been the only knowing father to him. He knows he’s adopted as we tell him in a level of understanding for him. However, he hasn’t connected yet that if my husband wasn’t there in the beginning.. then there’s another guy out there that is my real father. Basically, bio dad had two child abuse allegations against him that the hospital had reported. One was from when I took my son to the ER after an “accident” that happened right before bio dad dropped him back off to me. The second was when bio dad took him to the ER for another “accident.” After the second one, that is when he gave up custody and all rights to him. His rights just became officially terminated once my husband adopted him. He has never once reached out asking anything about him. He has not seen or talked to my son since the night he left the hospital and I stayed with my son. He was 18 months old then and is now 8 years old. However, bio dad’s mom (biological grandma) has been posting stuff recently stating she wants to see him and misses him. She reached out to my husband about a year to a year and a half ago saying she will find him and he will know his bio dad is a good person.
Bio dad is married now with 2 daughters and 1 son. I know all scenarios are different, but I fear so much they are going to cause issues whenever my son gets older.
People have told me to not stress too much. My son will probably wonder about who his bio dad is and we just need to answer his questions honestly whenever he asks them. People have also said boys are less likely to want anything to do with the biological dad or family if they’ve just dumped them.
Has anyone had a similar situation with a son or know someone to give insight?
