Am I being unreasonable

So boyfriend and I were discussing birth control after having our baby. I said I'd go for the iud if we were actually going to be having sex as he seems to have completely gone off me post partum. My reasoning was I don't see the point in chucking a load of hormones in my body and getting the side effects of the iud if we're only going to be having sex once in a blue moon in which case we should use condoms. he said definitely do it and our sex life would go back to normal, I've had it for literally eight months and we haven't had sex at all in that time. Despite talking to him about it and why we haven't ect he just doesn't seem attracted to me anymore BUT he doesn't want me to get it taken out. Am I being unreasonable here? I don't see why I should be cramping and bleeding for no purpose...
