False negative ? Retake test?

I am 7 almost 8 days late on my period… I decided to test. & I want to ask how accurate are these tests lol? Did I test too early?Period was suppose to start dec 24. Period always come on time or early, this never happened before. Should I test again ? I also want to add I did have unprotected sex on Dec 9th. I also want to add that I’ve been extremely down,anxious, and crying for almost a month straight due to a breakup, my job, and college..poor heart couldn’t catch a break lol. But thoughts ?
