Yes, I’m Mad She Got Engaged And Married On The Same Day!

Going to try to make this as short as possible because it’s truly a long story.

THE BACKSTORY

I’ve been friends with my friend Erica since college, about 10 years now. We’ve been good friends but I initially wanted to not be friends anymore when she said how she was jealous and angry of the attention our other friend would get from people and guys. She said she always struggle with those feelings due to her insecurities and how guys never really tried to ask her out or compliment her. Weird…but she seemed like she worked out those feelings so we remained friends.

During college Erica got her first bf that broke up with her 3 weeks in the relationship and right after being intimate… which I feel was the downfall for her cognitively…after that she would be intimate with any guy that gave her attention and she would get so drunk and sob in the club and would do that for months. We had several interventions and pushed her to therapy and it seemed like it stuck until after college she continued but we were all moved away to help her.

NEW GUY STEVE

Fast forward to 2020 she rekindles a friendship she had with a guy named Steve that she didn’t speak to much in high school. Shes interested in Steve but he was married and starting to go through a divorce. We all told her how we felt again but he was the one guy giving her attention so she was going with him. From 2020 to 2024 they have been in a situationship even though he has in several occasions told her he wasn’t attracted to her body because she a bigger girl than his past gfs and wife, then she cried but still kept in contact. Then Steve gets back with his ex wife who’s technically still his wife as the divorce hasn’t gone through…and so Erica gets mad at him because he isn’t giving Erica attention anymore but Erica continues to reach out.

Then Steve and the ex wife breaks up and instead of getting with Erica, he starts dating another women who then gets pregnant with Steves baby….which then 3 months later Erica gets pregnant by a random guy she met. BUT THEN Steve finds out that his gf was lying about being pregnant so once Erica finds out and she terminates her pregnancy. THEN he and that lying gf breaks up and Erica thinks she’s next to be his GF but he gives excuse after excuse AGAIN for months on why they can’t date.

THE SHOT GUN WEDDING

Fast forward to Spring 2024 and Erica and this guy finally got together. He is doing and giving her the bare minimum and I’m so tired giving my advice that simply falls on deaf ears. The Summer of 2024 I get engaged and just 3 weeks ago Erica and I’s other close friend just got engaged too. We’ve both had a typical start to our relationships and have been dating our guys for about 3 years. Now 3 days into 2025 Erica’s guy just drives them to the court house, hands her a ring and says we’re getting married today and she went with it. They didn’t tell their family or certain friends and have not met each others family or certain friends. And plans to do a wedding ceremony in a year.

KEEP IN MIND, they live on opposite ends of the country and can’t live together for the next 6+ months. We are all wondering why the rush??

I’m so annoyed, concerned and passive about this honestly. I would have been less upset if they got engaged. Yes they’ve known each other for 5 years but only dating for 6 months…and most of the 5 years was terrible! I would know as I’ve had to help her through each crying session!!

I don’t want to act fake about their relationship but I guess I’m not sure if I should say anything or just let things go up in flames and AGAIN catch her when she falls…
