Son got diagnosed with ADHD and autism

My son is 16 and his school had been trying to have me get him tasted for ADHD. I never thought he had ADHD. He did so well in elementary school. Then when he got to middle school and he flopped. I thought he just wasn't motivated. I finally got him tested and they diagnosed him with both ADHD and autism. The autism one really surprised me and kind of upset me because I don't think anything is wrong with my child. The guy child psychologist said some of the smartest people in the world have autism and my son just thinks differently then everyone else.

I felt upset but something that made me more upset is every person I've told about his diagnosis said "Yeah that checks out." I asked what that meant and my parents and even my boyfriend said my son is very autism coded. For example he doesn't flush toilets because he hates the sound they make. IDK that just upset me but also makes me mad at myself that it was obvious to everyone except me.

@Alisha my son doesn't really eat much. He is refuses to eat certain things and he WILL starve himself before eating something he really doesn't want and we've had that happen before and I was worried about his weight. He mainly likes things with bread. One thing I know he will eat is chicken nuggets or rolls. He will eat bread rolls all day. To even get him to eat vegetables I have to sneak them into smoothies. I don't think he really eats things that have red dye. But I feed him whatever I can get him to eat because he is so picky. Also even if I could get him to eat other stuff being able to eat ALL whole foods is a privilege. It's very expensive
