I’ve bout had it!
I am experiencing persistent frustration with a medical assistant at my obstetrician's office. Every interaction with her has been consistently rude, accompanied by a condescending tone that makes me feel uncomfortable. Her demeanor is blatant and obvious, and I worry that she may have caused distress for other patients.
During my visits, she has consistently displayed a condescending attitude. On one occasion, she mentioned that my Medicaid might not cover additional ultrasounds, citing my previous emergency room visits. However, I had not inquired about this, and her comment seemed unnecessary. While I understand that she is attempting to perform her job, I wish she would adopt a more considerate approach.
My emergency room visits were for severe abdominal cramping, spotting, a large bruise on my stomach, and respiratory issues related to asthma. As a concerned mother, I sought help. I contacted my insurance provider and they confirmed that Medicaid covered all visits except for two pending payments, which were recently submitted for February 3rd. I was informed that it may take up to 30-45 days for Medicaid to process the payment. So far, I have had one ultrasound at my OB-GYN and two ultrasounds at the ER that have been settled.
Today, I called the clinic to confirm my appointment for tomorrow. I am 20 weeks pregnant, and I was expecting an ultrasound to determine the baby's gender. However, the medical assistant informed me that I MIGHT be transferred to their ultrasound office for a fetal examination, and she again mentioned that my insurance might not cover it. Her tone was condescending, and she explained that there was no guarantee that the ultrasound would reveal the baby's gender.
I have been polite and courteous in my interactions with her, and I am perplexed by her behavior. I am concerned that she may be treating other patients poorly, and I hope that I can request a different medical assistant in the future. Fortunately, I have been referred to a high-risk doctor at a nearby facility, and I hope to receive better care.
I am unsure if I am overreacting, but I feel like I am being treated as a burden. I have researched Medicaid coverage for emergency room ultrasounds, and it appears that they should be covered as long as the doctor deems them an emergency. If there were any issues with coverage, I would have received notification, which has not been the case. I would appreciate feedback on whether my concerns are justified. As I have mentioned before, Medicaid has covered all of my medical expenses for visits and tests thus far, except for the two most recent ones, which are pending but expected to be paid, considering my prior coverage for a total of three ultrasounds.
To make matters worse, during one of my visits she assisted my Obgyn with my pap smear and inquired “What are those marks all over your legs”, while displaying a look of distaste I explained, They are flea bites from taking in a kitten.
Please, no rude comments. I will block and report.
