I'm just a Christian mom trying to bond with my emo/punk child

I was dropping my kids off at school and when I'm getting to the high school my 17 year old says "Mom turn this off. I don't want people thinking I listen to this." I was playing God gave me you. So I let him hook up his phone. I don't know the same if this song but he plays it so much. It goes "I'm still young. Wasting my youth I'll grow up next summer. I be gone those drugs I quit I kept my dealers number." It's by MGK. I love all my kids equally. My oldest son is my emo punk baby and we don't really have much in common. I let my kids just live life and be their own person. But I tried to make his interest my interest. I try to sing the song with him and he asked me what I'm doing. I said trying to take an interest in his hobbies. He tells me "Don't" then gets out the car. I can't win. Teenagers I swear.
